We are now half way through August and our featured artist/group of the day. Staying in the beautiful county Clare for today say hello to Socks In the Frying Pan! A group of musicians from Clare the group was formed in 2009 and consists of brothers Shane and Fiachra Hayes and Aodan Coyne.   The trio are a lively and energetic group who combine the melodies of traditional music with their own personal flair. They are booked by almost every Irish festival in the United States and have been praised there for their modern traditional style and energetic approach. The Irish Music Association has voted them “New Band of the Year”.

Aodan, who’s family are steeped in music with his father and grandfather being great musicians in their own right is the guitarist and vocalist in the group and has released a debut solo album called “If We Only Knew” which Irish American News has quoted as

What might very well be the best CD release of the year.”

The Hayes brothers who grew up in Ennis both began playing music from a young age. Shane started playing the accordion at the age of eight and was taught by the great Tom Lynch, while Fiachra was influenced by such teachers of fiddle as Joan Hanrahan and Aisling Mulherne. His late neighbour and close friend Steven Madden inspired him to play the banjo for which he has a special love for.

The group will perform as part of this year’s Fleadh Cheoil on Monday 21st August 2017 for details visit the Fleadh Cheoil website.
