From Roscommon but living in Cork since2000, Tommie Cunniffe is an incredibly tallented button accordion player and composer of tunes. On his website it says:

his compositions reflect his singular style of accordion playing

But I think it's more than that. Tommies tunes are played the length and breath of the country on uilleann pipes, fiddles, flutes and other instruments because they have great melodies and energy.

Tommie's unique style can be heard in the session scene in Cork where he plays with musicians such as Johnny Neville, Gerry McKee, Terry McKee and Karl Nesbitt. We were very lucky to get to spend some time with him at a session in the Gables pub that runs every Sunday. We featured recordings from this session on the Touring for Tunes podcast.

Tommie's album titled Unbuttoned has received great reviews with most giving high praise to his compositions.

The video that I have picked to feature Tommie Cunniffe today demonstrates both his skill as a musician and his tallent for tune composition. Enjoy.
